Department of Art history in the Museum of Srem keeps a great and invaluable collection of icons that belonged to the monasteries of mountain Fruska gora and churches of Srem Eparhy, from  the oldest icon dated in the 17th century to the first decades of the 20th century when the works of Uros Predic and Stefan Aleksic were done. This collection comprises of  two tipes od icons, one for the iconostasis (called throne ones) and one for the table in front of the altar, meant to be kissed by the followers: all works done by many famous iconpainters such as Rafail Miloradovic, Stanoje Popovic, Teodor Stefanov Gologlavac, Teodor Kracun, Grigorije Davidovic Opsic, Janko Halkozovic, Vasilije Romanovic, Kuzman Kolaric, Vasilije Ostojic, Arsenije Teodorovic, Stefan Subotic, Mateja Petrovic, Jovan Ivanic, Petar Cortanovic, as well as numerous works of Greek and Russian workshops.

Second part of the Art history collection consists of the objects connected with the town’s culture of the 19th century. These are mainly objects of the applied art (furniture, glass etc.) and portraits of the distinguished citizents (nobles, church bishops, tradesman, esquires). Among them we can separate the significant  portrait of   Cira, noble, Milekic, first mayor of Sremska Mitrovica, done by S. Aleksic.

Third part of the Art history collection is a collection of modern 20th century Art, consisting mainly of paintings, drawings, graphics, sculpures etc, especially painting by Milan Konjevic and children portaits by Sava Sumanovic.
