The Ethnografical collection has been started in 1946 and already in 1949. first ethografical exhibition was prepared and opened under the name of ‘Domestic handywork in Sremska Mitrovica’. Material that has been collected represents traditions, customs and culture of all nations inhabiting territory of Srem in the XIX and XX century. There are over a thousand of different objects in our department which are kept divided into following collections: COLLECTION OF AGRICULTURAL IMPLEMENTS This is a collection of implements for cultivation of the earth that were used on our mainly agricultural teritory such as wooden ploughs, yokes,spades, sichles, etc. COLLECTION OF HOUSE FURNITURE AND UTENSTILS This is a collection of earthen and cooper pottery, painted pumpkins, pieces of the furniture and similar. COLLECTION OF THE TEXTILE CRAFTS This is a collection of devices for spin out and weaving (distaff, looms) as well as the products of this manufacture such as ornamented towels, carpets , bags. COLLECTION OF NATIONAL COSTUMES This is a collection of complete and uncomplete costumes of nations that live on the territory of Srem: Serbian, Croatian, Russinian, Slovakian. Collection of bonnets, kerchiefs and knitted socks are especially interesting. COLLECTION OF OBJECTS CONNECTED WITH THE SEASONAL CUTOMS This is a collection of objects connected with celebrations of the Christmass and Easter holidays such as ritual breads, Easter eggs, Holy wreaths, bells and etc. A thorough research of social and spiritual culture, exhibitions and publishing of expert works and catalougs is our maily work together with gathering and keeping a different material.
